Pre-Development Assessments for Oil & Gas Development on Department of National Defense Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Suffield
CLIENT: An International Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Company
AJM has developed a strong working relationship with one of its international oil and gas exploration and production clients to assist their development team with overcoming environmental and regulatory challenges and approvals with new energy development projects, specifically on the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Suffield in southeastern Alberta.
The current scope of work includes:
Desktop review of background environmental data;
Scouting of best routes and locations for placement of pipelines and well sites;
Completion of field assessments including wetlands, wildlife, and vegetation;
Preparing Application For Development (AFD) applications which are utilized for new developments on CFB Suffield and require Department of National Defense (DND) approval; and
Pre-construction migratory bird nest sweeps and wildlife sweeps.
AJM has assisted the client with both CFB Suffield DND approvals and applications for off-base assets in the Jenner area and Ferguson south of Lethbridge. The off-base environmental support has included Code of Practice (COP) Notifications to support regulatory requirements under the Alberta Water Act, Wetland Assessment and Impact Forms (WAIFs) to support regulatory requirements under the Alberta Wetland Policy, as well as wildlife and vegetation assessments to comply with the Alberta Wildlife Act, Species at Risk Act, and Migratory Birds Convention Act. Deliverables to the client have generally included AFD applications, WAIF and COPs and supporting documentation, wildlife survey reports, and general correspondences of findings and project communications.
